Ever wondered why our Squadron crest has a swan surrounded by flames, or why we wear the uniform...

We do a host of different activities in the Air Training Corps and we try to enable every cadet...

Band Success at Region

After months of preparation, the Herts and Bucks wing band headed to RAF Halton on Sunday 11th September for our regional competition. The marching band was made up of cadets from 10 different squadrons from all over the wing, 8 of which came from 332 High Wycombe. Many of the cadets in the band had never been to Regional field day before, and some had never marched with instruments but everyone worked together to make sure that the band was as good as we could possibly have made it. As well as all of the band members supporting and helping one another, we had so much help and support from Plt Off Orwell and Cpl Orwell as well as from staff all across our wing, including Wing Commander Gilbert who visited during our rehearsals to wish us luck and see how we were getting on.

At Regionals we competed against the best bands and musicians from the other wings that make up Central and East Region. Hertsand Bucks put on an incredible routine in the marching band featuring Space Oddity, Dambusters and Highway to Hell to name a few. The band scored 8’s and 9’s across the board but unfortunately we were just pipped at the post by Market Harborough Sqn. 332 Squadron had a large presence in the band with Sgt Rada as Drum major, Flt Sgt Peters, Cpl Macdonald and Cdt Stringer on the snare drums, Sgt Sargeant with the cymbals and Cdt KundzinsCdt Bray and Cdt Smith in the tune section.

The result was disappointing as we had worked so hard but it wasn’t over yet. Herts and Bucks percussion section finished first, meaning that we are one of the top 6 percussion bands in the Air Training Corps and we will be going to Corps Competition in November! The Percussion section included Flt Sgt Peters, Sgt SargeantCpl Macdonald, Cdt Stringer, Cdt Kundzins and Sgt Radaas the drum major, all from 332 High Wycombe.

As well as First in Percussion and Second in Full Marching Band, Herts and Bucks walked away with Second in solo drumming, third in Bugle and Ensemble, the Herts and Bucks Drum Major came first and we finished First overall…. Stealing the trophy from South and East Midlands wing for the first time in four years!!!

All in all, a brilliant day and all our sights are setting on absolutely smashing Corps and then coming back to defend our title at Regional field day next year.
